We have had a great first month of school.  We had our first award assembly this week and students were so proud of their achievement in the classroom and attendance.  There were 192 students with PERFECT attendance, meaning they were at school every day, on time.  That is just amazing!  We are well on our way of meeting our yearly attendance goals.  Let’s keep this trend going for the rest of the year!

As we enter the month of October, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of our safety guidelines for drop off and pick up each day.

DROP OFF SAFETY:

  1. When driving your child to school, pull all the way up to the top of the circle and let your child(ren) out on the passenger side only. I’m out there most mornings and very often drivers do not see the cars in front of them or those in the inner part of the circle.  Students are far smaller than cars and exiting a car into the inner circle is dangerous.  Never let your child out from the driver’s side and for your own protection, please stay inside your own car in the drop off circle.
  2. If your child must exit the driver’s side or if you plan to help your child out of the vehicle (or to get that last hug), then pull into the larger parking lot and let your child out near the bicycle racks.
  3. Please remind students riding the bus to stay in their seats and follow the driver’s directions at all times.

END OF DAY SAFETY:

  1. When possible, notify the office prior to 1:30 of any changes in the Go Home Plans. Students may go to a specialty class after this time or have a substitute that afternoon.  Prior to lunch is the best time to notify the office of a change in plans.  Last minute changes are very difficult to communicate fully.
  2. Students may not make changes to the Go Home Plan. These should be made in writing by a supervising adult (listed on the student’s registration paperwork).
  3. If someone new is coming to pick up, please remind that person to bring his/her ID to the office.

Never leave a car parked in the drop off circle as this is a fire lane.  You may receive a city traffic ticket for doing so.

As the weather cools and the rains begin, students wearing hoodies will not be as aware of other cars and hazards. It takes every adult to make sure kids arrive and depart safety each day.  Thank you for your efforts and your patience each day.

Thanks for all you do!

Sincerely,

Mychael Irwin, Principal
